Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago, focusing on the balance between the body, mind, and spirit to promote health and prevent disease. The word “Ayurveda” comes from the Sanskrit words “Ayur” (life) and “Veda” (knowledge), meaning “the science of life.” It emphasizes a natural and holistic approach to health, using diet, herbal remedies, yoga, meditation, massage, and lifestyle changes tailored to an individual’s unique constitution or dosha—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each person’s health is believed to depend on maintaining a balance among these doshas. Ayurveda also places great importance on daily routines, seasonal practices, and mental clarity to achieve optimal wellness. Today, it is widely recognized as a complementary system of health care and continues to be practiced both in India and globally.
